ASRH, HIV Prevention Youth Best Practices AWARDS 2011 Announcement (30 September 2011)

The Southern Africa Youth Movement, serving as the secretariat for Africa Youth and Adolescent Network on Population and Development (AfriYAN) in Eastern and Southern Africa is seeking to award network members organisations showing outstanding Adolescent, Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) and HIV best practices for young people. The objective is to encourage critical thinking and programming while rewarding youth efforts and promoting innovation designing of youth-specific responses around ASRH and HIV and AIDS Prevention.

AfriYAN Eastern and Southern Africa secretariat will make available ASRH, HIV and AIDS Prevention documents for download by network members, other youth organizations and website visitors. AfriYAN network members should submit ASRH and HIV best practices using a template to be provided online and based on these, deserving youth organizations will be granted the award.  

Submitted best practices will also be made public after the awards to allow for broad sharing. The intervention will maximize the internet by using social sites such as Facebook and twitter to reach the target group. This will be linked with the 16th International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) meeting. Furthermore link with World Aids Day whereby we will provide capacity building interventions as a way to mitigate identified gaps with the national networks with regard to programming, designing and implementation and continue the dissemination and vulgarization of the African youth Charter and the AU Plan of Action for the Decade (2009-2018). 

Beneficiaries/ Target: AfriYAN network members and young people in general. 

Objective: To encourage critical thinking and programming while rewarding youth efforts and promoting innovation designing of youth-specific responses around ASRH and HIV and AIDS Prevention. 

Awards: 6 desktop, printers will be presented to the award winning organisations. 

How to submit Applications can be sent untill 10 November 2011 South African Standard Time: GMT +2 hours. Applications received after this date and time will not be accepted. 
  1. Download the application form as well as rules and procedures (criteria) from http://www.afriyan.com or email: info@saym.co.za to request for them. 
  2. Applications must be e-mailed as Pdf or Microsoft Word (.doc or docx) file attachments to info@saym.co.za
  3. In case of multiple applications these should be sent each as separate email.
